Twice Now Win7 Has Started and Displayed a Different Desktop with Weird Settings, After Reboot All Is Good RRS feed

  • Question

  • Not sure if this belongs here or in installation and setup, if it's in the wrong place please fell free to move it.

    Win7 32bit on a Gateway AMD64 laptop. Clean install of Ultimate 1 week ago. Twice I have turned the computer on and Win7 displays its start up screen with "Applying Your Settings" message, just like I had created a new user and was logging on for the first time. The screen comes up with a black background, and maybe 3 or 4 desktop items. After it's all the way up, I restart and I get my desktop with all my icons.

    Any ideas ?

    I'm thinking of doing a brand new install, as I'm "tinkering" right now, the laptop isn't my main PC at home right now.

  • Hi Bruce,

    Before reinstalling, I suggest testing it in a new account:

    Create a new user account

    ====================

    1. Click the Start Button, type User Accounts in the start search pane and press Enter.

    2. Click Manage user accounts.

    3. Click Create a new account, and type the name.

    4. Choose account type as Computer administrator.

    5. Click Create Account.

    6. Log off and log on with the new account.

    Does it occur? If not, you can transfer files and use the new account instead.

    If it persists, please test it in Clean Boot mode.
