"404 - File or directory not found" when attempting to change Document Library Versioning Settings RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am attempting to change the versioning settings for the Pages list so that content approval is not required.  When I submit the page, I get the this error message:

    Server Error

404 - File or directory not found.

The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

The URL of the page displaying the error message is:

    https://[site name]/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?CS=65001

I cannot find any corresponing errors in the Windows event log or the SharePoint logs.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

You can check the IIS log whether there are some useful information related with this issue or special configuration before, refer to last reply by DeeTron from following post,

  • Thanks Daniel,

I saw that post but that does not seem to apply here as we are not using that ISAPI filter in our IIS instances.

The corresponding error in the IIS logs is:

    2012-01-17 13:33:08 172.30.[XX].[XXX] GET /sites/es/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll CS=65001 80 [username ] 172.30.[XX].[XXX] Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+6.1;+WOW64;+Trident/5.0;+SLCC2;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+3.5.30729;+.NET+CLR+3.0.30729;+Media+Center+PC+6.0;+MS-RTC+LM+8;+MS-RTC+EA+2;+.NET4.0C;+.NET4.0E;+InfoPath.3) 404 0 0 421

(bracketed items edited out for privacy)

Thanks for any and all assistance.

  • Bumping

Anyone have any ideas?  This is driving me nuts; our staging environment works just fine but production is where this is an issue.  I can't find any differences between the two that would cause a problem and when I reproduce the issue, the event viewer shows nothing; can't see anything significant in the SP logs and the only thing I see in the IIS logs is what I posted above.

    Very frustrating.

    Thanks for any help.
