  • Question

  • Hi,

Our SCCM 2012 server is running in the production Windows domain. The clients connect without any issues. We now need to connect all the test client to this SCCM server. For some reason this fails. I was therefore wondering: do I need to extend the schema in the test domain too? Or should is work without it?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Yes, if you want the clients to be able to find the SCCM Site/ Management Point automatically, then you need to extend it. You can also make sure that the clients can resolve the MP name and the use the same install string as for Workgroup clients to install them..

    CCMSetup.exe SMSSITECODE=ABC DNSSUFFIX=constoso.com SMSMP=MP.contoso.com

You will also have to either approve them manually or change the hierchy setting ti "automatically approve all"

  • No. You don't have to extend the schema in order to discover computers. It only has to be extended if you want to publish ConfigMgr data to the System Management container.

  • So basically, when I want to do a Active Directory forest discovery of a remote domain then I need to extend the schema for that domain?
