Internet Explorer 8 is organizing favorites alphabetically not by date modified RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I clicked on my Favorites Folder and changed it to 'hidden' then changed it back.  My Favorites Folder is still organized by date modified, but in Internet Explorer 8 - the Favorites menu is organized alphabetically - not by date modified.  Now if I add a shortcut to favorites it sits at the bottom of the list in Internet Explorer - new favorites are not organized alphabetically.  Why is the Internet Explorer 8 not organizing the sort pattern of my Favorites folder?  And how do I get Internet Explorer Favorites menu to list link/shortcuts/whatever you want to call them by date modified and not alphabetically?  This should be an easy fix but no information exists on how to solve this issue.

    Thanks

  • Internet explorer stores the sorting of favorites in registry (HKLU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Favorites

This allows users to sort favorites in their preferred way by using drag and drop. By default, new items are added to the end of the list to not disturb carefully sorted lists. The only automated way of sorting provided is sorting by name as you already discovered, but you can drag and drop any favorite to any place!
This is also the reason that change the sorting in the favorites folder itself does not change the order in the favorites menu.
