windows 8 MDT 2012 USB media for UEFI not wprking RRS feed

  • Seeing it listed is normally the hiccup (due to not being the right format or having the appropriate files), so that's a good thing at least.  When you say it goes into blue screen, hangs, and shuts down, this is after you've selected the USB device to boot from.  Did you see the Windows logo?  Are you using WAIK or ADK with your MDT?  Are you adding any special features or additional drivers to your Boot Image?

  • I saw this issue on Dell Latitude 10 tablets. I'd guess you're deploying to tablets as well from the fact that you're pushing x86 Windows 8. The problem was resolved by getting the boot image smaller--remove unneccessary drivers and Feature Packs from the MDT 2012 Deployment Share properties>Windows PE subtabs. I was able to get them to boot as long as the boot image was below 240MB or so. Get it as small as you can and see if that helps.

  • Make sure you have the correct storage and network drivers in the boot image.

  • I was having the same problem and found the same article you mentioned: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2845990

I used the "Media" portion of MDT and created a bootable flash drive setup for 32bit support only. The key part of that article was "To boot a MDT media deployment on x86 UEFI based system you must uncheck x64 when building the MDT media."
