Text disappears in Project 2010 pro RRS feed

  • Question

  • Interested if anyone has seen this problem and/or knowsa of a solution.  From time to time, when I changes views, all the text disappears, the name field widens out and only the Gantt displays shows any information.  The only recourse I then have to fix this is to shut Project down, restart and reopen the file.  It does not always happen and is very intermittent.  As an aside and maybe not related, but often when I click on the print preview button, Project shuts down.

I did install SP1 MSO, which I believe is the latest update.

    Any thought smost welcome.

  • There is a CU update for October 2011 which you might want to install - There is a CU for October - http://blogs.technet.com/b/projectadministration/archive/2011/11/02/microsoft-project-server-and-sharepoint-2007-and-2010-october-cu-2011-announcement.aspx

  • DavidC,

Ben's suggestion is certainly worth a try but the intermittency seems to point to possible corruption. For starters I would suspect your global file. Try trashing your existing global and then let Project create a new default global when you restart Project.

Hopefully you don't have a lot of custom views, table, filters, etc. since those will be lost when you trash your existing global. If you do want to save them, I suggest you attach them to a blank Project file but don't just move them all into the new default global because one or more of those customized items could be the source of the issue. I'd either regenerate your custom items, or import from your blank file one at a time over a period of time to insure you don't bring the original problem right back.

If your file itself is corrupt, you could try one of the methods in FAQ 43 found on the MVP website at, http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm

    Hope this helps.
