WSUS drive filling up. Nearly 250GB of files. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently inherited a WSUS server.  It's a VM that was shut down for a while and when I fired it back up, I noticed the drive used for storing the update files was full (a 200GB drive).  I tried cleaning it up the best I could, even manually deleting the files and running wsusutil.exe reset.  All that did was re-download all 6159 approved updates (somewhere around 250GB).  I've run the cleanup wizard several times and am now getting zeros across the board when it finishes, but nothing seems to have changed and I'm at a loss as to what to do next.  I expanded the drive to 300GB but that just seems like a temporary fix.

I do not download driver updates and really only do a few products and classifications (win7 and 10, exchange server 2010, server 2008r2 and 2012r2, endpoint protection 2010, skype for business server 2015, office 2010 2013 and 2016; critical updates, definition updates, and security updates).

    Any help would be appreciated.
