Windows Explorer search box confusion RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I use the search box function in Windows explorer it does not seem to return all that I expect. What I want to do is show results of all documents (could be Word, Excel, or PP) that may be in different subfolders and then sort by date to see the latest one modified. This will return only documents modified a month ago. I know there are documents (Word, Excel, etc.) modified more recently but they do not show up.

Any suggestions? I just type "kind: document" in the search box.

thanks in advance (more appreciation to follow... half up front, half after helpful suggestion :| )

  • Hi,

Try to re-enable Windows Search component in Windows features and restart the computer to check how it works.

If this issue persists, try to rebuild the index to check the result:

    1. Open the Control Panel.

    2. In the Instant Search box, type Index.

    3. Click on Indexing Options.

    4. Click on Run as Administrator and allow the privileges.

    5. Click on Advanced, then Rebuild.

  • Sir, type the Extensions files Like :

    *.xlsx OR *.xls

    the Result will be Excel Files 2003 & 2007 & 2010 together.

    also try this

*.xlsx OR *.xls OR *.doc OR *.docx

and this time will be Excel & Word from 2003 to 2010.

you can add another Office Extensions like PPT .

    Regards,

  • Thanks for the quick response.

This still doesn't return files past a certain date.

Is there anything that could keep those files from showing in the search results?

  • When I do "date modified:last week" the results are empty. I can look through the folders and find several Excel files that were modified last week though. I am running this search on a shared folder from a file server if that makes any difference.
