deleted sub site not completely deleted RRS feed

    On SP 2010 without sp1. A user accidentally deleted a sub-site. i brought up the site on a dev farm from backup so we could manually rebuild it.  When we try to create subsites that are in the deleted site we get an error that says that a folder already exists with that name.  So it appears that the deletion of the site did not really complete.  I checked for orphaned content with the result that orphanedobjects = 0.  I trie stsadm deleteweb with the error that the web does not exist. is there any way to force the completion of the deletion??

    You may need to run the Gradual Site delete timer job in Central Admin.  When a site is deleted from SharePoint users will lose the ability to access it but it isn't actually removed from the content database until that job has run.  Depending on how much content was in that site you may have to wait a while for the task to complete but once it does you should be able to restore without issue.
