Error while creating a list or document library RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having some trouble with SharePoint 2007 Intranet, when trying to create a new document library, the following error occurs

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.   at ASP._layouts_new_aspx.OnLoad(EventArgs e) in c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\new.aspx:line 23
       at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive()
       at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

In the address bar there is no querystring visible, where there should be. Anyone that could help? I am using IE 8 browser. Thanks

  • Hi Amreesh,

Are you using SSL or extended web app? If so try creating your list on the other URL (non SSL/ non extended). See below.

"Fix: Create the list on extended web site (Intranet) instead of creating on the public facing domain on https."

    Hope this helps!

  • Hello BlueSky,

We are not using SSL or extended web application. Its a simple application with AAM configured for it. Please share the ideas or any other links. Thanks

  • Oh man I've seen that before. Not sure but I think it was after I did a database migration from dev to a production server and something wasn't quite playing nice, maybe a missing layout page or something. Have you checked the Application logs or the Sharepoint logs in 12 hive? Tried Fiddler yet?

  • Hello scogordo,

I tried to find out the aplication logs and SharePoint ULS logs on the server but nothing important and sensible came out. Just one thing that when I am going to View all Site Content and then click "Create" and then in "Document Lib" or"Announcement. After entering the details in the form, once I click on Create then it takes me to the URL http://Servername/_layouts/new.aspx and after the new.aspx it is not refering to the Feature ID which is resulting in this error. Why it is not showing the feature ID after new.aspx? I am not able to figure out. Like it should show like this actually http://Servername/_layouts/new.aspx?FeatureId={00bfea71-e717-4e80-aa17-d0c71b360101}&ListTemplate=101. in this case it is showing only http://Servername/_layouts/new.aspx and throwing above error. we are using IE8 browser. Though it works with IE 6 and 7. Any Ideas.......

  • So it works in IE6/7, but not 8.

You've tried it on different machines with IE8 I assume? Chrome? Firefox? Have you tried adding it to Trusted Sites, and/or eased off the Security settings?

I scanned through http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288142.aspx. I don't like suggesting articles without pointing out something specific but might want to pore over.

    Hope that helps,

    Scott

  • Hello Scogordo,

Yes ..it works with IE7 but not with IE8. It works with other browsers like firefox and Chrome. We have seen that its already added in the trusted sites and other security settings. But there is a thing, that when we try we can create list and library in IE8 @ our machines but when it comes to user sitting in Germany, he is not able to create same doc lib and lists in IE 8 browser. very difficult to understand it. your suggestions would be highly appreciated.
