Creating Custom Styles for Shapes, Tables and Graphs RRS feed

  • Is it possible to create custom styles for Shapes, Graphs and Tables in Word 2010/2013 and add them to the relevant galleries?

  • For graphs, assuming that you mean chart formats, you will have to settle for the built-in formats, but you have some options for shapes and tables.

    For shapes, you can do the following: Insert an example shape in your document, and format it the way you want it; then select it and click Insert | Quick Parts | Save Selection to Quick Part Gallery. Specify a name and choose the options you want. For example, the "Gallery" you pick determines where you can access your shape in Word's user interface.

    After you have inserted a table, click the Table Tools Design tab, right-click any of the existing table styles in the Table Styles group, and then choose New Table Style. Use the "New documents based on this template" radio button to transfer the style definition to the attached template.

  • Colors are controlled by the applied theme (more specifically: theme colors), if that helps.

  • Thanks Stefan.  With the Charts, I don't mean different types of chart, I mean formatting options for Charts and SmartArt (e.g. a colour range to use for series / objects).

    Any thoughts on that?
