  • Question

  • I am a SharePoint Analyst and I have a few users that noticed when they upload documents into the document library the # of documents in the document library varies from the number of documents when they change to the view to explorer view?  What could possibly cause the numbers of documents to differ between views?

  • Some reasons that come to my mind:

    • The view is setup so that you can only you can see your own documents. Check the view settings (Filter section) , or
    • In the document library settings check the Enable Audience Targeting setting. That option may be enabled.
    • The view is setup so that only certain number of items are displayed. I.e. pagination is turned on. Check the view settings (Item Limit).

  • Hi,

Other than this the explorer view also shows the folder Forms.

  • The Folder Forms you see in the Explorer view will be used by SharePoint to store the default ASPX pages like DispForm.aspx,EditForm.aspx etc. Probably you should've enabled to show hidden files and folders in your Explorer.

As this "Forms" folder contains all content related to system you shouldn't modify any thing inside this folder.

  • I checked all 3 of the items suggested and it is still showing a different number of documents per view! :(

  • The content of Forms folder is not included in the comparison. I am just counting the actual pdfs and I am still coming up with different numbers of docs per view.
