Problems with saving to Sharepoint 2010 Library RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a strange problem when I try to create a new document and save it to a Sharepoint 2010 Library by doing like this:

    • Click a library in Sharepoint
    • Click New Document, Word starts and shows the new, blank document
    • If I click save immediately, the system will try to save the document on my local disk, not in the library. But after a while the system will show the library and save the document as it should. But I have to wait before clicking save.

Any tips on this? I have read a lot of threads about this and I have installed Desktop Experience and started the Webclient-service, but the problem is still there. It always work if I wait for a while before saving, could it be a performance-problem? How can I log this?

  • Just to voice in on on this, I also have same problem (well, I'm guessing it's the same; I never experienced that saving to SharePoint would work after waiting for bit).

Multiple people have commented the issue, but AFAIK no solution which resolves all the issues has been published yet. The Desktop Experience solution (http://blog.techgalaxy.net/archives/3049) did not work in my situation either. After installing it, though, I'm able to save a document by entering the specific URL I want to save at in Word...which was not possible before.

See also http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepoint2010general/thread/9bd410a8-d2ca-4f75-8bb5-c9bfcd1c7546. I have an open thread regarding the same issue, with a bounty, on Stack Overflow at http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/16938/why-is-word-document-created-from-template-saved-locally-instead-of-to-the-docu.

Let's hope we're somehow able to get to the bottom of this problem. The issue has been around for at least a year and is a dealbreaker for the usage of SharePoint document libraries whenever it occurs.

  • It seems that "my" problem only occur on Win7-clients, XP-clients can save to the library immediately.

  • Ref. the answer I got for my stackoverflow post, have you tried installing the Web Folders Update on the client machine? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=17C36612-632E-4C04-9382-987622ED1D64&displaylang=en. I am running Windows 7 and this fixed the issue, if done along with the Desktop Experience solution on the server side.
