Duplicate computers after reinstall of OS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

This may be a simple fix but here is the problem, sometimes we have to format computer and reinstall the OS.  Now we use the same computer name to keep our records straight, but in SCCM the collection will have duplicate computers.  The old computer and the new computer, how do I set SCCM to delete the old computer record?

I see that there are some tasks in the predefined maintenance task that might do this, but I am not sure.  It seems like Delete Obsolete Client Discovery Data or Delete Inactive Client Discovery Data might do the trick, not sure though.

    Hope this makes sense.

  • The Delete Obsolete Client Discovery Data task is the one that will work for cleaning out these "stale" or obsolete systems. By default it is set to 7 days (I think), but you can lower that. It is also not enabled by default so you must go in and enable it.
