MS Project Pro 2007 Crash

Question

I have a PM that is having problems with MS Project Pro crashing when she tries to open the application. All other Microsoft applications seem to be working just fine. This just started yesterday for her. Here are the error details:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: WINPROJ.EXE
Application Version: 12.0.6554.5000
Application Timestamp: 4d4c65d5
Fault Module Name: WINPROJ.EXE
Fault Module Version: 12.0.6554.5000
Fault Module Timestamp: 4d4c65d5
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 004b9905
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.4
Locale ID: 1033
Additional information about the problem:
LCID: 1033
Brand: Office12Crash
skulcid: 1033
Any ideas on what might be happening? Do we need to uninstall MS Project from her computer and then reinstall the application? She has done a reboot of her computer and that did not fix the problem. We are running Windows 7
Thank you,
Travis

Hi
It can be user's local profile issue. Please login with a different user account to the same machine and check if the issue is reproducing.

Travis,
It's a little less common for older versions of Project to crash but it does happen. Before uninstalling and re-installing Project, try rebuilding the Global file. The working Global should be in: C:\users\[her user name]\App data\Roaming\Microsoft\MS Project\12\1033. Drag that Global to the trash and then try to open Project. If it opens successfully, the user's working Global file was corrupt. If Project still does not open, she is probably stuck with uninstalling and re-installing Project. If she had custom settings (i.e. views, filters, etc.), she can take the Global file from the trash and replace the default working Global with the one from the trash. That will restore all custom settings.
One other thought though. If this just started happening, did she install any new software on her computer? If so, I suggest that software be removed as there might be a conflict.
And by the way, make sure she has SP3 installed for Project 2007.
Hope this helps.

We tried removing the Global file and opening MS Project, but that did not fix the problem. We are now going to try the uninstall/reinstall option.
When she opens MS Project and tries to connect to the server it throws the error and then it will not close down. We even tried to close it down through the task manager and that did not work.
So we will try to reinstall it on her machine and go from there.
Thank you for the input!

Travis,
Your original post didn't indicate the use of Project Server but it sounds like that is what you have. If you are using Project Server, does Project Pro crash when used in standalone mode? If it only crashes when connecting to Project Server, it could be server issue and you might get a better response if you post to the Project Server forum at: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/projectserver/en-US/home?forum=projectserver2010general.
