SBS 2011 Standard with Premium Add-on RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have SBS 2011 std and SBS 2011 Premium Add on,

After installation of SBS 2011 Std, SQL 2008R2 was already installed, is this workable ?

Do I need to install SQL2008R2 from Premium Add On DVD?

    Thanks.

  • The SQL installation on the server is used for Sharepoint and monitoring. You will want to use the full version SQL 2008R2 Standard edition that is on the Premium Add On (PAO) DVD. You should also have a second copy of Windows Server 2008R2 for you to build that PAO server first, and then install the SQL Server there.

  • Adding this:  The SQL from the PAO will only install in an SBS network, be it Standard or Essentials.  Additionally you can install the Server 2008 R2 from the PAO on the hardware, add the HyperV role, then install both the SBS and the PAO as VM's on that.  Saves on hardware costs and electricity.
