Determine Which Domain Controller is used for Export RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Is there a way to determine which domain controller is being used during an export? We have multiple domain controllers and I want to log which one was used for exports on a given run of the Management Agent.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

I have multiple AD sites and I needed to do some processing on some updated records. I wanted to be sure to run my program against the AD site that would have the updated information rather than waiting for the replication interval.

I wrote a Library that gets me the information I need.

    Thanks for your help.

  • On the Configure Directory Partitions there is a option to configure preferred DC's; this is often used with Exchange provisioining.

  • Or else you'll probably need to extract this from the Run Details (it's XML under the hood)

  • Hi,

Didn't think about this.  Where are the run details stored.

    Thanks

  • You can get the Run Details using WMI (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms697764(v=vs.85).aspx). I'm using some of these WMI calls for my MARunScheduler as well (http://blog.goverco.com/p/marunscheduler.html)

  • Hello,

Thanks for the pointer, now one final question. The WMI classes are fine if you want to look at the previous runs's information. What about determining the AD controller you are connected to during the current export run? That is while you exporting is there a way to see which Domain Controller you are connected to?

    Thanks again.

  • I'm pretty sure that you can't do that. You'll need to be quick to catch that anyway. What exactly are you trying to accomplish - you may need to rethink your strategy.
