Task Sequence User based Deployment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

My question is about targeting a Task Sequence to a set of dynamic users (part of a Security Group/Collection).

So, the end goal is something like I've a set of 100 users that I can add to a security group & a task sequence is available for those users on the fly.

Any leads will be highly appreciated.

  • I'm assuming you're using MDT with SCCM, since the standalone MDT (Lite Touch) does not have any targeting at all, and that you mentioned collection.

Unfortunately Task Sequences in SCCM can only be deployed to device collections, not user collections. I have seen some workarounds when you deploy a script to a user collection, that in turn adds the Machines to a device collection and trigger the policy.

  • Thanks Johan. So the script you mentioned, is it trying to pull off the user's primary device in ConfigMgr and then getting it added to another device based collection..

do you mind sharing it if available..

However, I think ADSI is still not supported with WinPE, is it so?

  • Look into using a WebService for moving the Computer to the Device Collection.
