Not sure what you mean by Disaster Protection in comparison to BMR. But you could use Bare Metal Recovery to recover a failed server from a disaster to a different server with different hardware. Here are step by step instructions on how you could recover

The only other time I see Disaster Protection is when you switch protection from the primary and secondary dpm servers.
