whole system randomly shutting down after window 7 install RRS feed

  • Question

  •   The day i installed windows 7 64b on my system everything seemed fine for the entire day except for the graphics glitching real bad on a couple reboots that a simple restart fixed. But the next morning the box was dead and the problems started.
In addition to all the errors, for ex. ( NTLDR is missing, which is an xp error!, boot disc failure, and a couple others) the system kept turning off. Sometimes within seconds of turning it on it will shut down, its shut down it in bios, Ive even had it up a whole evening once but when i got up the next day it was off again, and I was unable to boot back into windows.
I took it to micro center, and in short, they never seemed to think windows 7 was the culprit. The thing they did finally find was that the ATI radeon hd4890 , after some stress tests were done, was shutting the whole system down within 10 or 15 minutes. They put my old 8800gt in and it was stable after running the stress tests for about 3 hrs.
And fyi i had the 4890 operating with total stability on windows vista 32bit for about 4 days b4 i installed windows 7.
The latest is that i just brought my box home from that last fix, with the 8800gt in still, as soon as i turned it on it shut right back down. Turned it on again and its been stable for a few hours now. Problem is the last time it did this it was dead the next morning...

To you experts out there, could this possibly be the windows 7 thats doing causing this?

1st are you using the Beta or RC if your on the beta download the RC because the beta does hourly shutdowns. 2nd i had the same issue with it not starting up and that is the boot Manager not being installed right and here's how to fix that: Stick in your dvd, reboot, dont hit a key to load it off the dvd and it will load the boot manager then load into w7 and go to the start menu and enter this "(dvd drive letter):\boot\bootsect /nt60 (WinXP/Boot Drive Letter):" and it will fix the boot manager as for your ATi video card read this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/189c4e85-8fd0-44ae-9efa-7d2e2fc7f17d
