  • Question

  • Overnight my PC, Windows 7, did several updates. Many of them, status important, failed. What can I do to resolve this issue?

  • I would reboot the computer and then run windows updates once you log back in.  Often an update will fail to install if a prerequisite update that request a reboot has installed but the machine never rebooted.

  • Hi,

Have you met any error messages when the issue occurred?

First of all, we may try turning it on in safe mode and clean boot with networking first, then try restart the update.

The windows update troubleshooter may be a good idea, please try it.

    Troubleshoot problems with installing updates:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7

We may also try to reset windows update components to narrow down the issue.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

In addition, we can also try sfc or dism tools to troubleshoot the issue.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files:

Fix Windows Update errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool:
