DPM 2012 R2 / Server 2012 R2 GUI does not allow selecting disks for optimize RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running DPM 2012 R2 on server 2012 R2 (was 2012, did an inplace upgrade)

Looking at the disk optimisation GUI, I see the only option is to optimize all disks or none.

I would like to optimize only the non-DPM disks.

I can use  powershell Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter to do this, but I am curious as to why the GUI does not allow the selection.

The only server showing this is the one with DPM 2012 R2 installed so I am assuming that is it something to do with DPM.

The server has thee local drives, on for the OS and one for DPM volumes, one for some other files.

Optimize Drives : only select all is available

  • I tried this on my DPM server and got the following warning:

    [Window Title]
    Optimize Drives

    [Main Instruction]
Do you want to restore default optimization settings?

Storage optimization is currently using customized settings created by another program. Before you can modify the schedule, you must remove the customized settings.

[Remove customized settings] [Keep customized settings]

So it looks like DPM does something to the defrag settings.
