Can't access my 2nd internal hard drive because of Bitlocker RRS feed

  • MyDell XPS motherboard, Windows 10 Home edition, failed and had to return computer to Dell

    and new motherboard was installed and returned to me. Before I sent computer off I took out

    the WD 4 TB harddrive I'd installed to keep it safe here. After I received the computer back

    and updated the Windows 10 on it I installed my hard and I got the message from hell:

    Enter the 48-digit recovery key to unlock this drive. (Key ID:5D0831 CD).

    I never made any attempt to turn on Bitlocker and didn't until today know what it is!

    Perhaps it got turned on somehow by mistake but I'm the only user.

    Does this mean I can never in any way access all my thousands of files?

    Had Dell's motherboard not gone out this all would never have happened.

    I'll try MS tech tomorrow but I fear for the worst. Any hope?

    I'd like to confirm:
    (1) Have you consult Dell (where you sent your PC)?
    (2) Have you updated/upgraded Windows 10 successfully after you received your PC?
    (3) When did BitLocker message appear?  after you installed your HDD (secondary)?

  • I apologize since there was a simple solution complicated by my not being able to access my Microsoft account on my rebuilt computer (now I can of course).

    Once I verified my account on my laptop by searching for bitlocker recovery key there, holy baloney, were my recovery keys for all my drives.

    I'll get a better night's sleep tonight.

    I deencrypted my hard drive which took a day and a half! and now I hope I never hear that word bitlocker again.
