Architecture question RRS feed

  • I'm new to DPM and I need some clarification on architecture .

Reading the documentation I understand that DPM uses a storage pool , local to the DPM server , to save the workload data .

On each workload a DPM agent has to be installed which "sends" data to the DPM server .

This way we will use a LAN-BASED backup architecture in which the workload use network to send data to be saved to the DPM server .

I'd like to know if it's possible , as in other backup solutions , to implement a LAN-FREE solution , in which the workload agent can write directly to the "destination" storage pool .

Our goal is to implement a solution in which DPM is used to manage backup of workloads to a SAN DISK storage , workload writing directly , and the DPM server offloading the backups to a tape
