Can't disable Open File on File menu RRS feed

  • Question

  • The old public access tool could disable the Open File option on the File menu in Internet Explorer. Use of Control-O or selecting Open File gives the user access to the local network as well as the ability to type in any URL and access the internet. Is there some way to restrict this ability short of returning to the PAC tool? Thanks.

We can use Group Policy to restrict most of the attempts to open those resources.

    1.       Use Windows+R to launch the Run box, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

    2.       Please navigate to the following path:  User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer -> Browser menus. You can set restrictions based on your needs, such as "Disable Open in New Window menu".

Note: Gpedit.msc is not available in Windows XP Home.
