Moving supporting SCSM databases to different SQL Server - need help RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are in the process of evaluating System Center service manager, and wish to move the databases supporting it to a different SQL server.  While searching for documentation on how to perform this operation, we found this post on TechNet social: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/systemcenterservicemanager/thread/8c3d2eb6-0fb5-46c2-92f6-e83eea154482

Through this post, and our own search, it seems there is no documentation specifically geared toward moving the Service Manager databases  (we are interested in moving the Data Warehouse databases as well).  Should we follow the instructions for moving the Operations Manager database, per the post above, or turn to some other resource?

    Thank you!

  • I'm not test yet, but SCSM and OPsMgr use the same technic, so my opinion - you can use guide for OpsMgr.

  • Hi,

These are not MS articles but might help to provide some information.

    As for the DataWarehouse

I had a failure and had to rebuild my datawarehouse.

    I restored the database(s)

I then followed the steps in the article below and basically treated as a DR situation.

    Hope this helps :)

  • I've moved the SCSM data warehouse.  While this may or may not work in your situation.  All I did was register a new data warehouse with SCSM, then drop the DWDataMart and DWRepository from the new instance of SQL.  Then just attach the same databases from the original data warehouse instance.
