SCCM 2012 PXE Boot Steps RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a SCCM Management Point at an office in Sydney. It is the only server with the MP role.

I have installed 6 DPs around the country across our private WAN.

I have installed the PXE Service point on each of the DPs as well.

The DPs\PXE points in the other sites are having issues.

Is there meant to be SMSPXE.log file on the other remote servers? If so were can I find it as I cant find anything. I can only find the file on the MP server.

I have ensured that Boot images, Install image and all related packages have been updated at each DP.

I can successfully boot via PXE and deploy images in Sydney.

In the other sites the clients are saying "no boot filename received". I am not sure were I should be looking to find some logs that I can try troubleshoot this with.

    Cheers

  • smspxe.log should be available on each PXE-enabled DP. It might end up in %windir% (or \system32) ...

  • All sorted.

I had only advertised the Task Sequence to unknown machines. This machine already had the SCCM Client installed hence it was not unknown.

    Cheers!

  • Do the remote DPs also have the client agent installed? If so, check the client agent's logs directory.

  • The smspxe.log is located under the C:\windows\ccm\logs\ folder (or the client folder on your DP).

  • Hi Torsten,

Thanks it was in the System32 folder. I had looked everywhere and even done a search for the smspxe file within the Windows directory which up until this morning didn't return any results. :S

Now to trawl through the logs to find out why at this site the clients are getting a "PXE-E53: No boot filename received"

    Cheers

  • Are both images (x86/x64) available on the PXE-enabled DP? What does smspxe.log tell when you try to boot a machine?
