  • we have retired a DC, but some remote clients are trying to connect to this DC rather than the new ones.

How can I force them to use the new DC?

  • The value of %logonserver% environment variable is not a conclusive proof that clients are still using that particular domain controller.

    Check the output of

    nltest /sc_query:your_domain_name

This should allow you to identify which domain controller a client is actually using for authentication.

To "reset" the value of %logonserver%, ask your users to re-logon
