windows server 2008 r2 datacenter now shows as enterprise RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've got a few servers loaded as Windows server 2008 r2 datacenter that were activated and after a few weeks they now pop up some box about being "not genuine".  The entire background is black and now it says we are running enterprise edition.  I've tried to reactivate it with our proper key but now it's stating that it's not able to be used on our version of Windows.  We are using MAK.  Is there any way to get these activated without reloading the entire server?  That's a lot of pain right now.

  • Hello Narcispy,

The Product key installed in a KMS host key.

It certainly does report that it is Enterprise

The notification reason is that the hardware(drivers) had changed which is why the machine went out of tolerance.

Look at the \windows\panther\setupact.log to verify the machine was installed as Datacenter

There should be references similar to this:

    2009-11-04 11:57:41, Info                  IBS    SetSelectedWindowsImageInfoOnBB:EditionID is [Enterprise].

In this case, I have Windows 7 Enterprise installed.

  • Hello Narcispy,

Open an elevated cmd prompt and run slmgr /dlv.\

Report back the output ( if the output is in a dialog box you can copy the output as text by using ctrl+c)

shows all the application id's installation id's...

  • Hey,

Do we have a KMS host in the environment (the activation server of our network) or are we trying to setup this machine as a KMS host?

If this is the only machine that we want to activate via the Microsoft activation server then enter the MAK key for your windows server 2008 R2 enterprise and the machine will be activated.

more over this output says we have installed Enterprise version not the Datacentre.

    Thanks, Laxmi
