Project Server 2013. Do I need to upgrade to Exchange 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We recently setup Project Server 2013. We currently run exchange 2007.

Do I need to upgrade to exchange 2013? If so, what features and functionality will we loose if we don't upgrade?

  • Hi,

In the hardware and software requirements http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee683978.aspx I found the following:

My Tasks (task synchronization with Exchange Server 2013, Project Server 2013, and SharePoint Server 2013: Requirement Exchange 2013

I haven't seen any other requirements to have Exchange 2013. I hope someone can correct me on this if I am wrong.

    Hope it helps.

    With Kind Regards,

  • Hi there,

Following on from the advice from Robin, if you dont want to use the My Tasks sync functionality then Exchange 2007 SP1, Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2013 will be fine:

  • Hi

I agree. Only the work management service sync to Exchange mailbox needs Exchange Server 2013.

You would not be able to update to Exchange Server 2013 currently. There are some bits missing....

  • Thanks everyone for confirming the missing fuctionalility.

Looks like we all need to wait at this point.

One further question. If I was to move all my clients to office and project 2013 while still using exchange 2007, would there be an incompatabilities or problems?

    Thanks again!

  • Hi

the users will also be able to use Outlook 2013 with their mailboxes still on a Exchange 2007 server. To be really on the save side you could ask over in the Exchange forum. Perhaps they will also recommend taking the step between and first upgrade to Exchange 2010. I am not sure with the upgrade paths here.

As Paul wrote, Exchange 2007 SP1 should be sufficient to use the task sync functionality for Project.

    Kind regards
