What is the MS reccomended way to Administor SharePoint day to day RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a situation where the install or Farm admin credentials are unavailable to me due to security reasons.

To be clear I mean the account used to install Sharepoint and the one that should be used for stsadm commands.

I am not referring to the Db access account that is the ID of the Central Admin appool.

Is it best practice for this account to used for these taks or should normal user accounts be used and given appropriate permissions?

What do most on the board do, login as the Farm account?

Answers

  • I seen both.

The easiest way to run stsadm commands is with the farm account, for sure.

If you setup individual admin accounts, you will have to put them in the WSS_Admin workgroup, and setup web policies to give them access at the webapp level.

With multiple farms (large deployments), you can use either AVE or Quest products for this.
