Bitlocker locked my external drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just bought a new computer at Best Buy, plugged in my external drive with all my files to transfer and Bitlocker asked for a code! I have never used or setup bitlocker. MS says I need to pay $490 to access a solution. This is horrible and is ransom-ware at the core of MS! Any ideas?

  • To get your recovery key, go to BitLocker Recovery Keys.

  • Hi,

Do you mean you was required to input password for external drive?

I am not sure if some one or you with carelessly encrypted external drive with BitLocker.

But once we encrypt external drive, we need to use password to decrypt it. If you forgot password, an available recovery key could decrypt BitLocker too.

If you can't get any key for BitLocker, we might lose all data reserved in external drive to use it.

    Bests,
