Definition "Cloud domain account" RRS feed

  • Question

  • In connection with the storage of the recovery key at BitLocker, the term "cloud domain account" appears. Is there an official definition from Microsoft of what counts as a cloud domain account? Does it only refer to accounts that are hosted in an Azure Active Directory?

  • Hi Felix,

that's correct - that's another term for an Azure AD tenant user account

  • You might want to refer to https://celedonpartners.com/blog/storing-recovering-bitlocker-keys-azure-active-directory/ - it's a bit dated by the concepts are still the same.

The "cloud domain account" is not really the term you will encounter in the official Microsoft documentation - it somehow found its way into the BitLocker interface ;)

Ultimately though, that's essentially how the recovery works in this case - you rely on your Azure AD account to store the recovery info
