'Updates were installed' date source RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In 'Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update' there is the field "Updates were installed:".
Is anyone able to tell me where this date comes from? I have noticed that I have servers where it says that they are years behind or have no date at all.

All these server are patched via a 3rd party app and checking the "view update history" section I can see that there have been patches applied as recently as this month.

Does this date only update if patched through windows update?
Currently I keep getting the message "Your PC is up to date" so I can't even test it right now.

  • Hello there!

That date will be updated only by Automatic Updates or during an interactive session, updates processed through other means, such as scripts or third party don't get to trigger this.

You can use the following PowerShell one liner which will tell you when the last update was installed:

    (Get-HotFix | Sort-Object InstalledOn -Descending)[0]

    Hope this helps!

    Best regards,
