Vista Home Premium hangs on fresh install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have recently purchased VHP to install on my media centre PC as using XP was a little difficult to use from a distance.
I performed a fresh install by booting up using the Vista DVD.
After a first re-boot it get to the screen which says "Vista is cecking the performance of your system" with a progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
At this point or thereabouts, the machine hangs and HDD activity stops as well.
The only way to get out of this is by manually switching the machine off.
Obviously the install is now corrupt and needs to be done again which brings me back to the same problem.
I have read other posts which reccomend resetting BIOS defaults which I have done but this make no difference
The hardware I am using is pretty general with an Athlon XP 64 CPU, an Aver TV card and an ATI PCIE graphics card
    Can anyone help?
