Exchange Internet Mail Test RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all
Configuring the Exchange MP and I am tryig to get internet mail working.
The customer has a smarthost sitting in front of the exchange server, so when I configure the internet mail discovery and put in an email address all that is happening is that the smart host (iorn port) is accepting the mail and thats it....  So all the transaction is telling me is that the iornport is accepting the mail.

Is there a better way to send a mail and see if a response comes back in?

    Thanks a mill

  • There are some restrictions imposed by the cmdlet, basically the destination mail service has to be able to provide a delivery receipt back to the cmdlet. You can run it in PS directly as well to troubleshoot.

  • Hi,

You have to use an external adress with auto reply
Due to some restrciction (see Ake's Answer)
You may have to create your own monitor based on a script

  • Thanks for the replys guys, but the issue is not in the ability to send a delivery recipt, the difficulity is in the exchange server is sending mail to the iornport, it is then looking for a delivery recipt from it and it get it.  This however is still a local mail test and not internet mail.

The process is working as in we are reciving mail to the test internet mail account, but if I configure a totally made up address the iorn port will still accept the mail and it looks like its working, but its not.

  • You might want to try that question in one of the Exchange forums, as it's more of a question of interaction between test-mailflow and the iornport device, not monitoring.
