Restore files to different drive location

    Question

  • Using SBS Essentials 2011. We need to restore some individual files (Word, Excel, PDF documents). Is it possible to restore them to a drive location on the server different from their original location?

    Thank you.

  • Hi porbar,

Based on your requirement, if you have back up by using Windows Server Backup, you will achieve this target by using the Recovery Wizard.

Please locate to Administrator Tools and select Windows Server Backup. In Actions pane, click Recover. In the process of running Recovery Wizard, you can click Files and folders on the Select recovery type page. You will be able to select the specific files.

On the Specify recovery options page, under Recovery destination, click Another location, you can Browse to select or type path directly.

For more details, please refer to the following article.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Justin Gu

I know this is an old threat, but I am trying all forums and related threads.

I want to recover a file from a USB backup device in SBS 2011, but the recover wizard do not "see" the USB external drive.

I can do backups to the external drive with no issues. I follow all the correct steps choose the destination, but SBS 2011 do not show any of the backup devices.

I was able to in the past to recover files and the functionality just stopper for no reason.
