  • Question

  • Hi

I am trying to install SQL failover clustring on Windows 2008. Earlier SQL Stand alone was installed on the Server.

Now when i tried to install SQL Failover, then while checking the setup support rules, i received few warning and one failure message.

    1. Distributed Transaction Co-ordinate MSDTC cluster :: Warning

    2. Microsoft Cluster service MSCS cluster verification error :: Failed

    3. Microsoft Cluster service MSCS cluster verification warning :: Warning

    4. Network binding order :: Warning

Need some help ASAP in order to resolve these issue so that i can carry with SQL clustring on both Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • Hi rassac,

Are you trying to install default instance in cluster?. Try to install named instance in SQL cluster because a default instance already existing.

  • Did you pass all tests when creating Windows failover cluster? Seems like something with Windows cluster, not SQL Server.

  • Hi Ramesh,

I am not trying to install instance in cluster.

  • Hi All,

While installing MSDTC services, its giving an option to select cluster node.

Just wanted to know that do i need to create a new cluster for MSDTC or can i use the old cluster which were created while windows clustering was done?

If i am selecting the olde cluster, then its being created but unable to bring it online and showing its status as failed.

    Error: Error code 0X80071736

The resource failed to come online due to the failure of one or more provide resource.

  • Hi,

Create msdtc resource in windows cluster. There is no need to create additional cluster group for msdtc.

  • Creating MSDTC before installing SQL Server is not necessarily. I configured MSDTC after installing SQL Cluster.

  • Hi Serqey,

how is it possible to configure SQL before MSDTC and MSCS, as when ever you start with SQL enterprise Failover it will check the setup rules and if these services are not activated.

if possible kindly explain me the steps if this is possible.

    Thanks

  • Hi rassac, we defenitely should configure MSCS before installation SQL Cluster but MSDTC is not required to run SQL Server. After installing SQL Cluster I added MSDTC to cluster groups and configured it properly.

  • hi serqey, okay thats fine...but could u help me with steps in order to configure MSCS as i am unable to do so..and one more thing i want to confirm is that is it possible that due to installation of ADRMS on the server there might be any issue with both server's communication within AD?
