Trouble integrating cumulative updates into 1703 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Downloaded the latest 1703 wim from VLSC. That deploys just fine.

Tried to DISM KB4032188 but it fails, 4040724 fails too, 4041676 also fails.

4043292 and flash update work fine.

Am I missing something, a servicing update after 4022405 or some other patch?

I have upgraded to MDT 8443 and ADK 1703 already.

    Thanks.

  • I don't have any issues with cumulative updates being applied as part of the offline servicing neither with 1703 nor with 1709. How are you injecting updates into the image?

    Anton

  • Hi,

    standard DISM like so:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\amd64\DISM\Dism.exe" /image:"G:\wim_mount" /add-package /packagepath:"G:\Win10 Patching Baseline\1703 Patches Phase1"

Just dump the MSUs in the folder.

This is in the DISM log but may be a red herring.

  • So you are trying to do this manually? In this case, you may want to post your question on the Windows 10 deployment forum. The recommended approach when using MDT is to either use Apply Patches step to perform offline servicing during OSD you are apparantely going for or to create a reference image.

    Cheers,
    Anton

  • Just dump the MSUs in the folder.

I disagree with this method, you should download the latest Cumulative update (and the latest flash update), and delete the rest. There is no need to apply multiple cumulative updates, the latest one is going to win anyways.

Additionally, if you encounter errors while applying the Cumulative update, then you should review the DISM logs for any information, use the /LogPath flag to accomplish this.

    Dism /Image:C:\test\offline /LogPath:AddPackage.log /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\packages\package.msu
    -k
