SharePoint -- Excel files automatically checkout but others don't?? RRS feed

  • Hey all - I have a weird problem that appears to be only with my computer for the SharePoint sites.  To add, this only occurs with Excel files.  For some reason, whenever I just click on an excel file in a SharePoint it will automatically go into edit mode and lock the file.  Therefore, there's no way for me to just view the file in read-only.  Stragely, this does not happen with Word or PowerPoint, I'll get a "edit this file" box on top when I open those files.  I checked Excel settings and couldn't find anything... where/how can I change this??
