MDT 2012 Update 1 crashed RRS feed

  • Question

  • My computer (Windows 7 Professional with SP1 x64) with MDT 2012 Update 1 was used for applications deployment (two Post OS Installation TS) to computers with preinstalled Windows 7 Professional with SP1 OS (x86/x64). It crashed last week. Yesterday I installed brand new virtual machine (Windows 7 Professional with SP1 x64) and today I am going to install MDT 2012 Update 1 on it. I have backup of deployment share folders (I had two) from crashed machine and also I took screenshoot of share and NTFS permissions set up on them. New machine has different name. What has to be done on new machine in order to everything works as it used to work on my crashed machine.

    Thanks in advance!!!

  • This assumes that you have not hard coded paths in any part of your deployment share. If you have any piece that had dependencies on your old machine, this may have problems.

    1. Robocopy the share folder to the new virtual machine, check permissions

    2. Create a new share, administrators: full, everyone:read

    3. Open the MDT console, and "open a deployment share" to the local share.
(read the log and verify all components were imported correctly)

    4. Then go into the <deploymentshare>\control\bootstrap.ini and change the DeployRoot value to the new network share created.

    5. Then "Update Deployment Share"  This will incorporate the new bootstrap.ini file into your WinPE images.

(Please feel free to correct me if you have a better process). :)

  • I did the following:

    1. copied two deployment shares to new mdt machine
    2. shared these folders
    3. opened deployment shares with upgrade check box checked
    4. changed reference to old mdt in bootstrap.ini, properties of deployment shares and in all apps
    5. updated deployment shares
    6. tested, everything worked flawlessly
