Urgent : How to recover the program files folder ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I accidentally deleted the program files folder in Windows 7 platform as I found there were two program files folders under C: drive and one of them contains a list of folders having zero file size.      After I deleted one of the two program files folders, the other one was removed as well.    As I cleared the deleted folder in Recycle bin, I found quite a number of programs unable to launch now.    Is there any method to recover the files for program files folders ?

  • Hi,

Regarding the missing program files folders, you also can use some 3rd party data recovery tools for help.

  • Depends on which version of Windows 7 you are running.  Try this:

1 - Open "Computer" from your Start menu.

2 - Right-click the C (Local Disk) drive, and look for Restore Previous Versions.  If available, this will allow you to restore backup copies of items, including the Program Files folder.

Alternatively, you may try System Restore, which you can find by typing restore into your Start menu, to roll back to a previous state, which will restore system files including the Program Files folder.  Use this method if the "Previous versions" command is not available for you.

PS. When deleting items, never empty the recycle bin until you are sure you absolutely don't need the files. It won't hurt anything to have those files wait in the Recycle Bin for a few days.
