Exchange 32 bit Win 7 for 64 bit?

Question
-
Hi;
I got my copy of Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit at the launch event in NYC Oct 2009. I now want to upgrade my system to 64 bit, with a whole new mobo and cpu.
I read that I can get the 64 bit Win 7 for free, without a product key, or free with a product key if I mail my 32 bit DVD to Microsoft.
Is this option still available? If so, will I be able to activate this new 64 bit copy on my new machine? I will be un-installing from the old machine.
Thanks for your help

Hi Track7,
Excerpt from Mark [MSFT] post:
Please email your address & phone number to tne64@microsoft.com. Will send the 64-bit disk without a new product key within two weeks. Please keep the product key that came with your 32-bit DVD.
If I’ve already activated the key that came with the 32-bit disk, can I still use it to activate the 64-bit installation?
Yes, you can if you’re re-installing on the same machine.
Since I’m getting a 64-bit disk, can I just discard the 32-bit that I got?
No. Please keep the original packaging of your 32-bit disk because you’ll need the product key to activate your 64-bit installation.
I’ve sent my 32-bit disk back to Microsoft for an exchange, will I get a new 64-bit disk with key?
Yes, we will send you a 64-bit disk with product key when we receive your 32-bit disk.
According to my shipment tracking, the 32-bit disk I sent has arrived at Microsoft. Why haven’t I received my 64-bit disk?
Your disk was sent to a Microsoft mailing center. It would take a few more days for the disk to get routed to us for processing. Given the volume we’re dealing with, we do batch shipping, so it may take 10-14 days before you receive your 64-bit disk.
By which shipping method do you send the 64-bit disk?
We ship via UPS Ground which, depending on your location, may take up to 5 business days to deliver from the time we ship.
I emailed tne64@microsoft.com over a week ago, but have not received a response. Will I ever get a response?
Yes, you will get a response. There’s a backlog of requests, which are being processed as quickly as possible in the order they came in. Please be assured that you will get a response. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Regards,
Enamul

You have to contact Microsoft directly. I don't know the telephone number, but this is just a peer-to-peer forum and is not part of Microsoft customer service.
Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. ”Monday, January 31, 2011 12:06 AM -
