Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (KB2538243) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (KB2538243), but I keep getting the above error message, Error 997. Overlapped i/o operation is it progress.

I saw the Fix Below, but don't know how to Rename the File?

Looks like the easiest fix to try is to rename C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18 to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18_old and re-install. If that doesn't work that link has other possible fixes.

  • Log in Administrator > Locate the said file [i.e. C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18 ] > Right click on it > Select Rename > Rename to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\ S-1-5-18_old.

No OS editing should be needed for any C++ redistributables.1st,edit win components, .NET is a must,as well

as others, once thru exit.Go to run or cmd, type: services.msc  scroll down to Win installer, double click, set to

    auto start,start service,exit,do same for Win modules,once thru,edit others,if not sure,press dependency tab,

also, setting any to manual from disabled, gives the OS to run it when needed...Also 2008 C++ is outdated, still

    install it,but all others,to 2017 are good...
