Project 2010, Scheduling issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Project 2010, I'm creating a schedule for activities starting October 1st, so I've changed the Project Start date from today's date to 10/1/2012.  I also changed the "Auto Schedule Tasks scheduled on: Project Start Date".

The issue is that 1 day tasks span 2 days.  For example, if I schedule a task to start on October 1 and I set teh duration to 1day, it finishes on Octobe 2nd.

If I change the Project Start Date to todays' date, then 1 day tasks only last 1 day.  Meaning I schedule a task to start today and it finishes today.

I can't figure out what is causing this issue, but it only happens when I schedule activites from a future start date.

  • Expose the time element of the display.  You may find the task is starting
at something like 10AM on one day and extending into the second day - rather
    than the default 8AM.

  • Tried that.  Start time is 8:00 a.m., ent time is 5:00 p.m.

    No dice.

  • 1) Do you have resources assigned to the task?
    2) What do you see in the Scheduling Options for hours/day, days/week, etc.?
    3) Is it just appearing as 2 days on the Gantt - or do the Start/Finish dates
    show 2 days?

  • No resource assigned

    New Tasks created "Auto Scheduled"

Auto Scheduled tasks scheduled on "Project Start Date"

    Duration is entered in "Days"

    Work is entered in "Hours"

    Project start date Oct. 1.

If I create a task and set the duration to 1 day, then the start date is Monday, October 1 and finish date is Tuesday October 2

  • olsonkyle12,

Are you using a standard default calendar? It almost sounds like the calendar got tweaked (work hours) for October.

Also, do you have SP1 installed? If no, or not sure, see, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/ee748587.

  • OK - can you see the importance of the exact times?  So Start time is Oct 1st at 08:00 and finish is Oct 2 at 15:00.  Is that what you see for this 1 day task?

Look at File/Options/Schedule tab and confirm Hours per day = 8, hours per week = 40 and check again the default start time = 08:00 and default finish time = 17:00.  And while you're at it, check from Project/Change Working Time/ see on the right the daily working hours are showing 08:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00.  It is essential that all these times match.
