urgent replication

    Question

  • Hello,

    I read below article:

    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/qzaidi/2010/09/23/enable-change-notifications-between-sites-how-and-why

    http://www.frickelsoft.net/blog/?p=124

I am confused about urgent replication still:

1.Is urgent replication enabled by default(in intrasite and inter site repl)? If no how to enable it ?

    2. What if change notification is not enabled, can we still use urgent replication ? for events that trigger urgent replication.

    3. Enabling change notification between sites, will replicate changes at a delay of 15 seconds instead of default 3 hours? correct ?

    4. on demand replication means, replication between sites ?

Thanks for help. Its difficult to find easy to understand articles on this topic.

Answers

  • Urgent replication is triggered only by specific events and this is for the entire domain between all sites all the time with or without change notification enabled or not.

The only difference between change notification and urgent replication is the 15 sec delay.

  • Urgent replication is different than normal replication (or event Replication on change).

Urgent replication will send notification immediately instead of waiting the default 15 sec. period.  Those replications are trigged by certain events.  You can have the list of those events here --> https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772726(v=ws.10).aspx

  • Urgent notification is already enabled for some things e.g. Password changes , unlocks etc You need to enable it to apply to all other types

  • okay, urgent notification is already enabled for account lockouts. Password replication uses immediate replication to the PDC emulator. So i dont have to enable urgent replication separetly between sites.

so without enabling change notification between sites, urgent replication should work?

    Thank-you for help.

  • Reading quotes from below websites i am still confused if it is enabled between sites.

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772726(v=ws.10).aspx#w2k3tr_repup_how_huzs

Urgent Active Directory replication is always triggered by certain events on all domain controllers within the same site, regardless of what operating system is running on the domain controller. When you have enabled change notification between sites, these triggering events also replicate immediately between sites.

This only affects change notifications. If you don’t have change notifications on between sites, replication still honors the replication interval on the site link.

By default, urgent replication does not occur across site boundaries.
