Vista x64 upgrade to 7 - installer thinks I've asked for x86, but I didn't RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi all,

I'm trying to upgrade my Vista Enterprise x64 to Windows 7 Enterprise x64 by using the MSDN DVD. This is the Italian version of the Windows 7 Enterprise DVD (x64 and x86), upgrading an Italian installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64.

When I run the installer, it asks me to select between the x64 version of the OS and the x86 version. I select the x64 version. After thinking on it for a while, the installer kicks me out saying that I can't upgrade from a 64 bit version to a 32 bit version, even though I selected the 64 bit version.

If nothing else works, I'll download the 64-bit only ISO from the website, but I'd rather save the hassle - has anyone else had a similar problem?

  • Yes, I have the same issue, although I am using Ultimate. There are a few posts here and there. No answer as yet! Is your windows 7 media from MSDN?

  • My, guess is the MSDN install disk is the issus. Is the download going to be different? I may try Ultimate N, and hope that works...

  • The download is an ISO for the x64 version only, so it shouldn't have any doubts as to what version it's supposed to install... unfortunately, the download is annoyingly hard to get, as my connection keeps getting reset at around the 1 gb mark. :-/

  • I wonder if a new (correct) MSDN Disc 4618 will be re-mailed to us all?
