Error when starting the SCE Console RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed the SCE 2010 RC on a Windows 2008 R2. This server also runs VMM 2008 R2.
I have been working with SCE a couple of days, but today the console won't start. I get an errormessage when I start the System Center Essentials Console:

  • Hi Robert,

Analyzing the error report that was generated, it looks like Essentials is not able to locate some required files. This implies that the Essentials installation has become corrupt.

After installing Essentials, after installing Essentials 2010 did you install the Virtual Machine Manager server or console on the same server as Essentials?

    Thanks

    Richard

  • I recently installed SCE2010 RC to test it, and everything worked fine for a couple of days

But suddenly, the console stopped working. Windows 2008 R2 x64 Datacenter gave me a message"system center essentials console has stopped working", here are the details:

  • Hello,

Is this a remote console or a local console on the SCE Server?

Can you try to reboot the SCE server and then open the console again?

    Thanks,
    Anshu

  • In addition to my above email..

To help us troubleshoot this further, can you please reproduce the error and then do the following and post the results:
    1. Open Event Viewer (Start -> Run -> eventvwr)
    2. Select Windows Logs
    3. Select Application
    4. In the Actions pane select "Filter Current Log..."
    5. In the Event sources select "Windows Error Reporting" and click OK
    6. Copy the details of the most recent error and post it here

  • It seems that the problem here is running VMM and SCE on the same machine.
I wonder why you are not able to run both servers on the same mackine?
And why can't you run both consoles on the same mackine?

My opinion is that the Virtual management is SCE is poor. I need the VMM to do the things I want to do with my Virtual environment.

  • Hi Robert,

Can you help me understand your setup a little more?

    • When you installed Essentials 2010, did you select to install the Virtualization component?
    • After installing Essentials 2010 did you install the Virtual Machine Manager server or console on the same server as Essentials?

Also, we'd be interested to know which virtualization features you find are missing in Essentials and cause you to use the VMM console.

    Thanks

    Richard

  • Thanks for the confirmation Robert.

Essentials 2010 includes technology from Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 and installs components of VMM during installation.

Installing VMM after Essentials will remove files required for Essentials, which is why you're seeing the error that you're seeing.

Are you able to provide some examples of functionality in the VMM console that you would like to see included in Essentials?

    Thanks

    Richard

  • Richard,

Is there a fix to restore SCE 2010 console function after installing SCVMM 2008 r2? I only installed the console and am receiving the CLR20r3 error. I attempted the uninstall of the VMM console with no joy. I have not uninstalled/re-installed the SCE2010 pieces.
