Internet Explorer 10 and HP Smart Print Incompatible RRS feed

  • Question

  • There is a compatible problem with HP Smart Print and IE 10.  This freeware program worked fine with IE 8 & 9.

I am posting on this forum because a group of users have been working on the problem on the HP forum site to no avail.  Nothing that is tried will get this program to work.

It downloads and installs fine as an IE add-on. Restart IE and the icon is in the favorites bar and appears in the tools menu.  However, it you try to use it only part of the program loads (the selection window) but the print control panel does not and IE freezes up and must be restarted.

If used on a https website it appears to load correctly after an active-X content popup window and the display all content window is selected.  But if you try to print, it prints double on the original webpage.

Does not work at all on http websites.

Here is link to the HP forum for more info about the problem.

Any help will be great appreciated. Thanks

  • Have you tried the compatibility view? Meanwhile, please check the following article.

  • Thank you for the reply.  That link and download was the first thing I tried.  I assume that the others on the HP forum did also.  Compatibility view does nothing to fix the problem.

No work arounds have been found.  Simply, Smart Print is not compatible with IE 10 and it's going to take a software upgrade to get it working with IE 10.

It's going to take Microsoft to tell us what is incompatible or HP to publish a new version.

    Thanks again.

  • Could this problem have something to do with Data Execution Protection?

  • If you suspect DEP, you can change that setting temporarily to check the result.

  • Niki,  I tried that already.  When I tried to exclude Smart Print a pop-up said that smart print can not run without DEP and my request was denied.

    Start>Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings

    Under Performance>Settings

Click the DEP tab and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services
    except those I select.

Click Add and then navigate to Smart Print which on my computer is
    C>programs files (X86)>Hewlett-Packard>Smart Print2.1>LaunchEspresso.exe (I think).

However, when I try to excluded it from DEP I get a message that says it
cannot run without DEP and I am denied.
