  • Question

  • We have identified an issue with Windows Update KB4019472 affecting the following software programmers for hardware manufacturers:

    -       - XiLinx ISE iMPACT programming

    -       - Keil RealView ULink 2 for debugging and tracing

Other type of ISE/HDL/debugging software may also be affected.  If affected, cable connections will fail to connect.

  • Yes, your discovery is correct, but for compatibility issue, you’d better ask for help from software manufacturer directly, they may give you some idea or update.

The following contents come from XILINX forum and KEIL forum.

1#Impact 14.7 is not officially supported with Windows 10. ISE is in maintainance mode and hence no further releases.

Few users made Impact to work with Window10 and here is the link for your reference.

2# ULINK2 does not have a custom driver but rather uses the OS built-in USB HID driver. Check under devices in Windows if you see "Keil ULINK2 CMSIS-DAP".

  • We previously used the link to make Xilinx work with 64bit Windows, so that solution was already in place.

For Keil, the USB driver has not changed or missing, the only difference was installing the KB in both scenarios (we tried reinstalling and uninstalling KB4019472, and the results was the same for both programs, which it stopped communicating through the cables when installed).

We will try your suggestion below and try installing ver 1230 or build 1703 and post the results.

  • I just installed version 1703 with the latest updates.  It did not solve the issue.

    To recap:

Installing KB4019472 or Creators update, will prevent Keil or Xilinx impact 14.7 HDL debugging/programming through the USB device.

The OS does recognize the USB device attached, and Xilinx detects the cable type as well.  But when attempting to read/write, the programmer fails.

We also tried changing the shortcut's compatibility mode, but it did not help.

  • Ok, it indicates that Keil and XiLinx ISE iMPACT does exists compatibility issue on newer Windows version, but I am sorry for no other suggestions.

You may need to roll back to previous Windows version for daily work, and wait for update of your software programmers.
